Claire's First Halloween

We had such a fun Halloween! We've always been big Halloween people, but having a baby took things to whole different level.
We took Claire to the pumpkin patch a couple weeks ago. They had so many gorgeous pumpkins of all shapes and sizes! Claire wore the pumpkin corduroy jumper I bought for her last year right after I found out she was a girl. So special to see her finally wearing it! When we were taking pictures, people kept stopping and walking over to see our little pumpkin...she was quite the star! Yes, I know that's bragging, but what's the old saying? It ain't bragging if it's true?!?
I think Claire was a little overwhelmed by all the pumpkins and people. She was very serious and wouldn't really smile much. I think she enjoyed it though!

Luckily, smiling wasn't an issue on Halloween itself... :)
Claire was a pumpkin for Halloween! Her costume was so cute! My mom and I tried it on her a few weeks ago and she threw a little fit, so I was worried she might fuss on the big day, but she actually didn't mind at all. She even kept the hat on! She looked so precious!
We went to my parent's house for pizza, pumpkin cookies, and a little trick or treating with Gracie (aka Minnie Mouse)! The girls were so cute together. After awhile, we came back home to pass out candy to our neighborhood trick or treaters. Several families in our neighborhood throw this big Halloween block party every year. They block off the street, rent bouncy houses, play music, and serve food. It's really neat! Every Halloween our neighborhood sounds like a club! We thought about walking over there with Claire but she was tired and we thought it might overwhelm her a bit. Next year for sure!! Our little pumpkin got to Facetime with her Gigi and Poppy and then went to bed!
Getting a good picture of both of them was impossible!
 Sweet cousins
Tired pumpkin

We also got Boo'd! Have you heard of this tradition? One morning earlier this week there was a cute container full of candy and Halloween-themed treats on our porch. It's called Boo'ing, and once you've been boo'd, you're supposed to Boo two other people. Just another reason I love our little neighborhood!
Claire's first Halloween was so great! It's so special having a child for all of these holidays. It's something I always dreamed about and I'm enjoying every minute!

Claire - 9 Months

Claire, you are 9 months old! You're growing up so quickly right before our eyes! It's wild to me that you've now spent as much time "on the outside" as you did in the womb.
Here are your measurements from your 9 month doctor visit:
Height: 28 inches (64th percentile)
Weight: 21 lb, 6 oz (90th percentile)
Head: 18.5 inches (99th percentile)
At your 6 month visit you were in the 89th percentile for height and now you're in the 64th, but Dr. Spellings isn't concerned about this change. She thinks you went through a big growth spurt right before 6 months and that now you're just leveling out. You wear size 3 diapers during the day and size 4 overnight diapers. You can still fit in some 9 month clothing, but you're in a lot of 12 month clothing. You fit better in 12-18 month pants from Old Navy than you do in the 6-12 month size!
Here's what else you've got going:

- You are crawling all over the place. You move super fast! You're into EVERYTHING! It's crazy how fast you can get into trouble - ha! I even had to call poison control a couple of weeks ago because I found you eating cat litter! Thankfully, the lady at poison control assured me that cat litter is not toxic and that this happens all the time. You are constantly trying to get to the cat's food and into the fireplace. We're having to get very creative with where everything goes now. You are such a mess and I love you to pieces!
- You can cruise the furniture with ease. You love to make the loop around Pinky & Papaw's new round coffee table! You've let go and stood on your own a few times!!! We were at Gigi and Poppy's house the first time you did this and they got to see the whole thing - we were all very excited! I'm not sure you even realize you're standing on your own really. Dr. Spellings thinks you'll be walking in about a month - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
- You're talking and babbling a lot! You can say mama, dada, dog, hi, and just today you've started saying "no no no no" (you learned this from your cousin Grace). You're very vocal and expressive! Lately, you're shrieking/yelling/howling at stores and restaurants. Sometimes you also yell at me between every bite of food - I think this has to do with teething.
- You are cutting 3 teeth right now. That will bring you to 7 total! The last week or so you've been fussier than normal and not completely yourself. At times, teething almost makes you like a different child! I hate seeing you in pain and hope those chompers finish coming through soon! In the interest of keeping it real, here's a few outtakes from our 9 month photoshoot that show how you really feel about taking pictures during teething...
- You're a good eater and it's fun seeing you try new things. You're still eating purees and oatmeal, and we're starting to try new foods. Lately you've been having pieces of cheese, ham and turkey for lunch. Last week you had a little bit of pork and tortilla from a Torchy's Tacos - my little Austin girl! You're still obsessed with Cheerios! Cheerios are a lifesaver in stores, restaurants, and the car.
- You're also still nursing. Your sharp little teeth have made for a few painful moments, but we're going to keep on trucking!
- After your upper front teeth pushed through, we started the Ferber method again and you were sleeping better...not through the night, but better. Now that you're cutting more teeth, the nights are really rough again. You're a great napper - you usually take a long morning nap and usually take a shorter afternoon nap. Sometimes the afternoon nap doesn't happen. You still nap in your swing. I know we need to transition away from that, especially since you will grow out of it soon, but when you had a hard time napping in your crib a few months ago, I made the decision that it was more important for you to get into a nap routine and then we'd worry about the location later. I've been on a great crusade to find curtains for your room. I am totally clueless when it comes to curtains and find them totally overwhelming, so I have none in my house. NONE! The ones I ordered should be here this week and then we'll start transitioning your naps!
- Earlier this month you made your first trip up to East Texas and attended your very first Strutton family reunion. It was a lot of fun and I was so proud to introduce you to everyone! Daddy and I are a little nuts, so we decided to also attend his 10 year high school class reunion that evening in Houston. This made for 14 hours of driving in a 72 hour period. We were very nervous about all that time in the car, but you did so great!!! Since we've been home you kinda hate your car seat, which is pretty understandable. You're reaching that phase where you don't like to be confined in a car seat, high chair, etc.
- You had your first fever a couple of weeks ago. You were pretty quiet that day, but I thought it was because we'd had a very busy day. Later in the afternoon, we met a friend of mine at a restaurant and you started acting really lethargic and then you fell asleep in your highchair. This never happens! I felt so bad when I realized you had a fever. Thankfully, your fever was gone within 24 hours, but the stomach virus that accompanied it lasted for several more days. It's hard seeing your baby sick - I'm so glad you're feeling better!
- A few weeks ago, we went to your first storytime at the library. I actually think this is where you caught the bug you had. It was really interesting to see you around so many other kids your age! You've been around other kids when we hang out with friends/family and in the nursery at church, but never a group this large. I suspected you'd stick close to me, since you tend to be a mama's girl, but I couldn't have been more wrong! You were in the middle of all the action, mixing it up with all the other kids! It was so cute!
- You're entering a really fun, interactive stage! You're starting to dance and wave to people. It's just so sweet and amazing to see you do new things.
Current nicknames: Clairebear, Toot, Tootie, and Tooter. I know that will embarrass you someday, but for now you're our little Toot! ;)
Favorite toys: books, blocks, tea set, your pumpkin pillow, and anything you can chew on!
Claire, you make each day so much fun! You make me and your Dada beam with pride. We love you to the moon and back!

Love,
Mama

Claire - 8 Months

Claire, you are 8 months old! How in the world is that possible? Today as you were falling asleep for a nap I sat there and wondered how your birthday, a day that I think about so often and that seems so recent, could possibly be 8 whole months ago. This is the bittersweet part of being a mama...of course I enjoy seeing you grow and change, but I also want you to stay my tiny baby forever.
You are still a chunk...you weigh about 20.5 lbs. We will see the doctor next month and get your other measurements. You still wear size 3 diapers and most of your clothes are in the 6-12 month range. Most of your 9 month Carter's clothes still fit, but I don't think it will be long before you move to 12 month clothes.

Here's what you're doing these days:
- You are all over the place and into everything! You crawl all over the place and get around very fast these days. You are pulling up on everything and cruising around the furniture pretty handily. You're starting to let go a little bit, so I'm sure you'll be standing on your own before long. You have no fear and always, always gravitate to whatever is dangerous. You keep me on my toes for sure! Today I found you eating the cat food...oops! You are such an adorable mess!
- You tried Cheerios last week for the first time and you LOVE them! You like Gerber Puffs too. You've had many different kinds of pureed and mashed foods...most all of them have been a hit, although carrots and peas don't seem to agree with your tummy so we've put those on hold for now. I think your favorites are sweet potatoes and peaches. You eat oatmeal for breakfast and a veggie or fruit for dinner. I've recently started giving you oatmeal at night too (sometimes mixed with your fruit) in hopes that it would help you sleep. Saturday night you and I went to dinner with Pinky & Papaw while Daddy was at the A&M football game...between every bite of food, you were screeching/growling/yelling! It was hilarious and a bit embarrassing...you were causing a ruckus, but luckily you're cute and people seemed to think it was funny!
 - You have the most adorably chubby legs! Your cheeks are super pinchable...Aunt Lizzie always says they touch your shoulders! Your eyes are striking...they're a beautiful blue pearl color. Your Daddy hoped for a blue-eyed baby girl and you did not disappoint! Your hair has gotten a lot thicker in the last few weeks. We still can't completely figure out the color...at different times/in different lights it can look blonde, brown, or auburn.
- Your top front teeth are finally through...whew! You wear an amber teething necklace and it definitely helps with drooling and pain/fussiness during the day. Nights have been tough...you are usually up three times a night, often to eat. As I mentioned earlier, Mommy and Daddy think back on your newborn days with great fondness, but that doesn't mean we want you to sleep like a newborn. Now that your front teeth have finally broken through, we're restarting the Ferber method tonight. Sigh...here's hoping it works...we really (really, really) need sleep. Thankfully, you're a good napper and if we're home, you'll usually take two consistent naps during the day.
 - You're saying "Dada" and "Mama" and babbling constantly. It's so cute! Hearing you say "Mama" is one of the best feelings ever. Your giggle is infectious...the surefire way to hear it is to shake my head so that my hair moves around. You think that's hilarious! Today I discovered that you crack up if I throw your stuffed animals up in the air...silly girl!
- You love animals. Teddy and Aurora entertain you endlessly! It is so cute to see you get so excited to see them! Teddy loves and sympathizes with you to the point that he howls if you cry. The more he howls, the more you cry, and so it goes! It makes for some very interesting moments at our house. I'm just waiting for the day when the cops show up because of all the commotion!
 - Hands down, books are your favorite thing in the world. You love to turn the pages! It's super cute and it makes my heart happy to think about you being a book lover.

- Favorite toys: books, plastic Easter eggs, blocks, Gloworm, bouncy balls

- Current nicknames: Bambina, Clairebear, Cubbybear (Papaw's favorite), Pookie, Tootenberg (ridiculous Breaking Bad reference!)
Claire, you are just the most precious thing in the world. When I think of all the fun we're going to have in the next few months celebrating all your first holidays, I can hardly wait! You are our pride and joy and we love you, sweet baby!

Claire - 7 Months

Claire, you are 7 months old! It's still hard to believe we're in the second half of your first year. You're growing and changing so much, but you're also still the same sweet baby I held in my arms 7 months ago. You're definitely looking more and more like your Daddy each day! You've always been a blend of both of us, but you looked a lot like me early on...but these days we see more and more of your Daddy and Gigi's Campbell genes.
I don't have your current weight and height since we don't see the pediatrician this month. You're still in size 3 diapers and 6-12 month clothes for the most part.
Here's what else you're up to:

- You are officially crawling! You've been so close for so long, but on Wednesday (August 21st) you finally did it. It's very exciting! I know it will make you happy to be able to move around more easily now. I don't think you've figured out that if I walk across the room that you can follow me just yet. I know you will be crawling all over the place before we know it though! We have lots of babyproofing on the agenda this weekend!
- You've been eating pureed foods for about a month. I've been making your baby food and it's going really well - very easy for me and healthy for you. So far you've had bananas, sweet potatoes, peaches, green beans, pumpkin, and applesauce, and you've liked everything! You have oatmeal each morning and a puree in the evening. You are very serious about food and it cracks us up to watch you bang your hand on the high chair inbetween bites or while I'm preparing your food...it's your way of showing approval for what you're eating and saying "more!"
- We're pretty sure your top front teeth are about to make an appearance. Poor baby! They've completely thrown your sleeping for a loop! We were getting into a routine with sleep training before this, but right now we're in survival mode and just trying to get through the night. It has been rough and we are all exhausted! I know it's toughest for you...it has to be painful! I got you an amber teething necklace last week and it's definitely helping with drooling and fussiness during the day. At night, it's very tough to get you back to sleep once you wake up though. Hopefully those little chompers break through soon!
- Most days you take two good naps if we're home...usually a longer one in the morning and a shorter one in the afternoon. So far we just haven't had much success with napping in your crib, so you nap in your swing.

- You are pulling up on things to stand and it amazes us how strong you are! Today you moved from standing at the ottoman to your rocker all by yourself! You love to grab our hands and pull up from sitting to standing. I know someday soon you will take off! Daddy walked at 9 months and I think you may follow suit...Mama's not sure she's ready for all that yet! You are a little daredevil...SO ACTIVE and always trying to find a way to get to whatever might be dangerous - haha!
- You LOVE Mickey Mouse! When Mickey Mouse Clubhouse comes on TV, you have a fit when you see Mickey! It's seriously one of the cutest things I've ever seen in my life. Mickey has some sort of magical power over babies because your cousin Gracie was the same way about him.

- You've started hollering/growling a lot...in stores, in the car! It's hilarious! Today you've been saying "gah" a lot. You have the sweetest laugh I've ever heard! It honestly doesn't even sound real...it sounds like a babydoll. You have a very sweet disposition and I love seeing your precious little personality come out more and more.
- Favorite toys: your exersaucer, giraffe teether, stuffed bubblegum bunny, Melissa & Doug picnic basket, stuffed Mickey Mouse, pink rattle ball, toy cell phone teether

- Current nicknames: Bambina, Clairepie, Tootie Bird, Tootie

Claire, you are our sweet tiny tiger and we love you to the moon and back!
Love,
Mama
